October 22, 2009 STARC met at 7pm at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church for our monthly meeting. The meeting was started with a time to socialize enjoying cookies, punch, coffee & bottled water. We had a good turnout of people. We had 26 people in attendance. We did not have any visitors, but we did have one new member join. Also, we recognized KF5ARJ for upgrading from Technician to General. Announcements were made concerning upcoming activities. Nominations were taken for STARC Amateur of the Year award. Voting will be at the November meeting. Those not able to attend will be able to email there vote. More details on this will be available on the web site November 20th. AD5TC, James, gave a great presentation on the history of Morse Code and of the many types of keys made of the years. He had many examples of keys for everyone to look at (see pictures below). It was a good show & tell presentation. After the meeting, people were huddled around the table discussing keys and testing the various ones on the table. Thanks for KE6DRE, Jim, and AD5TC, James, for the door prizes. |
